The "Catholic perception" of Martin Luther

An evangelical Protestant friend of mine who has a podcast and is somewhat of a "presence" among fundamentalists posted this question on FB today Honest sincere question. How is Martin Luther perceived in the Catholic Church today? Do I have Catholics on this page that would graciously giv...

Re: Top Ten bands

There are a lot of good bands listed in this thread....the only one missing (to me anyway) is my absolute favorite.....Rush. I am also partial to Steely Dan....but I don't think they qualify as a "band". Rush is one of my maybe's, but although I was a Rush fan, I was never a Rush fan like...

Re: Top Ten bands

U2 and Rush are the top two. Not sure of the order but probably leaning towards Rush. The next 8 slide in and out from the list of 20 or more depending on the day, season, situation. Some are... Last night, I started reading Last Bus to Woodstock, the first of Colin Dexter’s “Morse” novels. I’m thoroughly enjoying it!

Re: Laudato Deum Apostolic Exhortation

Why do people feel the need to complicate what really is quite simple? God gave mankind stewardship over the earth (Gen. 1:26-28) The Oxford Dictionary gives as one definition of the word steward : "a person employed to manage another person’s property, especially a large house or land." (...

Re: Catholic Apologetics and "The Great Controversy"

The first time I encountered that book, I didn’t know what to do, so I fell back on J.Dub protocol: accept it to shut them up, extricate myself as soon as civility allowed, then toss it in the trash at the first opportunity. There’s a certain comfort in knowing I halfway did what Fr. recommended.

Catholic Apologetics and "The Great Controversy"

Apparently, the Seventh-Day Adventists are making inroads in the little town where I live. Twice recently, I've had the book The Great Controversy by SDA leader Ellen G. White waved in front of me. Catholics here are scarce as hen's teeth; I have to cross two counties in any direction in order to at...

Re: Abp. of Santa Fe & NM temp gun law

I heard the governor herself (in an interview with CNN that was excerpted on the radio this morning) do the weakest double-down I've ever heard when directly asked about the constitutionality of her actions, especially in the context of her prior profession as an attorney. Both her verbals and non-v...

Re: 2023 college football guessing competition

Man, what a game last night! Utah played more like a Mountain West team than a PAC-12 team, and still managed to take Flori-duh to the woodshed! :laughhard The swamp lizards were so inept, they even gave up a touchdown to the Utes by allowing two defenders with the same jersey number on the field on...

Re: One Month Later - lessons learned along the way

A close friend of mine is a nurse with the area VA hospital; while things were at their worst with Timmy, my friend asked my permission to give my contact info to the chaplain there. (Just for clarification, and for those who didn't already know, I'm a Veteran.) As I'm one never to turn down a praye...

One Month Later - lessons learned along the way

I posted this on my FB earlier and thought I'd share here as a kind of update. ********** One month ago today was the day my Timmy passed away. That makes today a good day to reflect on a few lessons I've learned about the transition into widowhood. 1. Roll with the punches, and trust me, you WILL g...

I'm watching Ted Lasso for the third time. :cloud9: It's my "feel good" show at a time when I need all the "feel good" I can get. I'm also catching the new episodes of Murdoch Mysteries , Outlander , and Father Brown as they upload. I'm also queueing up other series to re-watch o...

Re: What were your people doing during WWII?

My mom and her younger brother were busy being little kids living in San José, Costa Rica. My grandfather (her dad) was a civil engineer, and was commissioned from 1941-1946 by the Federal Government to build the stretch of the Pan-American Highway going through Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Mom's older...

I attend an NO Mass, but that's because there isn't a Latin Mass offered within a 100-mi radius of "Hooterville." I love attending a TLM Mass and would do it in a heartbeat if one were available.
