Bergsma cowrote a good book taking down the JEPD theory too. Much of what passes for modern Biblical scholarship is nothing but theorizing in the absence of any evidence and then presenting the theories as certain.

It's not possible (AFAIK) to say, "The Catholic Church condemns this" or "The Catholic Church allows it." It's a matter of what is just in the case in question, and questions of justice generally require details about the particular case in question.

It is generally considered that it's permissible to take a vacation on which it is not practical to attend Mass on Sunday as long as it happens very infrequently. Are you familiar with the Fendertones on YouTube? They're a Beach Boys cover band with professional musicians who really know what they're doing. Mike and Al have both taken part in some of their work.
