I fear there's a mixture of people with legitimate concerns, and actual racists.
There was a video from an anti-immigration protest at Australia: an Indian-origin man, wearing a T shirt with Australia's flag on it, came up to the stage. He started speaking on how immigration is being more unrestricted and immigrants are now being ungrateful. However, he was booed by the audience, and someone came to forcibly pull him off the stage. He couldn't complete it.
Meanwhile if I say my own nationality on social media, I might get the random "stinks" jokes.
