Thw Confiteir

Are there any regulations on this? The only time we ever say it at my parish is during Lent, every other week of the year, we do the "Lord you X", Lord Have Mercy" call and response.

It is optional, the Kyrie may take its place as you note.

There are three options for the Penitential Rite, and the Confiteor is only one of them. I use it almost all the time, but that's because I'm a cranky old stick-in-the-mud.

Well if you say the Confiteor you're still supposed to say the Kyrie (even though some don't).

I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen both done, it is one or the other.

If the confeteor is used the kyrie is still used but it is slightly shorter - just simply Lord have mercy R/Lord have mercy etc. with no petition in between.

You would think so but the rubrics say otherwise

Fixed that for you

We always use both....the Confiteor followed by the Kyrie. The Kyrie is always sung....unless the music director is not at mass, then I simply lead the spoken form.

You may be right, and it went by so quickly that I never consciously noticed it, that is the problem with being so familiar with the liturgy, you come to miss things because you're narrowly focused on what you know is coming next. I will pay closer attention this week.

I've been to many Masses at which the Kyrie was skipped after the Confiteor so it seems to be a somewhat widespread practice.

I love the Confiteor/Kyrie Eleison combination.
I hate the"...and grant us your salvation" one, my pastor doesn't use that one.
