So how many priests still have trouble remembering "Leo our Pope"

I noticed today that my priest is still struggling to remember to mention the correct Pope. He said, "together with LEO, our Pope." He said "Leo" with emphasis, significantly louder than the rest of the liturgy. It seemed, and I don't think this is a wild conjecture, that he had almost said "Francis" but at the last second remembered the right name, I know that is what I do when I have difficulty remembering something, I said the thing I am difficulty remembering really loud as I am trying to remind myself.

As for me, every week I am still a little surprised not to hear "John Paul our Pope", so who am I to judge?

I don't think ours is having any issue but I'll try to pay attention this afternoon.

I've stumbled a few times and it's still not entirely smooth.

Our celebrant did great! He has only been with the Parish for about a month but we love him. For the first time in AGES we have a nice reverent Mass to count on. Sadly, he is only temporary. But we will be thankful for him while it lasts.

For me, since moving back in December 2018, every week I heard "Francis, our Pope, and Walker, our bishop", then Francis died and it was simply "Walker our bishop" for one week, then we got a new bishop on May 1 and for two weeks it was no Pope but "John, our bishop", now it is "Leo, our Pope, and John our bishop", so both parts changed at almost the same time, so I think the transition must be doubly difficult for priests in our diocese because now they have to say two new names, not just one

I think if I had to say "Walker, our bishop" I might accidentally slide into "Walker, Texas Ranger"

I've never been more grateful for the silent Canon

It's his middle name, his mother's maiden name. His actual first name is "Ralph", but I guess early on he decided he didn't like that name (and who can blame him?" and decided to go by his middle name instead.

What trips me is saying "Leo our pope and Louis our bishop." I keep wanting to swap the names.

I tend to think of our bishop by his last name, Dolan. So when the priest says, "Timothy our bishop", I sometimes stop for a second, and think, 'who?'. Then I remember. ;)

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but it's only going to get worse. ;)

What is this "change" of which you speak?
