Just a reminder, in case anyone needs it, but Life Site News, a frequently cited source by Catholic pages on Facebook, is a completely unreliable source that runs unsourced articles containing "shocking revelations" which they apparently make up out of whole cloth.
The latest article being shared: Hillary Clinton and John Podesta (both of them, really?) blocked transactions in the Vatican Bank (how exactly did they gain access to the Vatican Bank? Don't ask) and blackmailed Benedict XVI into resigning.
Evidence: none.
On a scale of crazy from 1 to 10, by Life Site standards, this is only about a 3, slightly less unhinged than the average article.

I was actually thinking about making a Life Site News post too recently.
I used to follow them as did a good Catholic friend of mine. A few years back she told me to avoid them because they were getting more and more into sensational and outright sinful posts. I initially didn't want to hear it because they were attacking the people who I thought needed attackin'. Thankfully that spell was broken.

Life Site News is basically the Catholic version of Infowars
Remember Art Bell? He was the source for the claim that the Hale-Bopp comet was being followed by a UFO. He was still less crazy than Life Site News.

Speaking of Infowars, I read what I thought was a joke, that The Onion was taking over Infowars. Since it's The Onion, I assumed it was a joke, but other news services picked up the story as if it was real. Is it a case where they don't realize they are being played?

The Onion did indeed buy Infowars, why they want it I do not know

Michael Voris was someone I would occasionally watch when I started coming back to the faith. He had his early Vortex episodes about how "lies and falsehoods" get sucked down into that vortex.
Initially I remember seeing him involved with pro life demonstrations.
Voris and Shea had a debate many years back - and it was cool to see them being friendly with each other. Now consider both.

The lesson I take from this is how easy it is to drift away from sanity. I see it happen with my brother priests too, and I try hard to avoid it myself.

I'm glad you brought this up. I had come to this conclusion years ago.

There was a time when they were fringy but reported real-ish news. Then they jumped the shark.
