A rare bottle of whisky has been sold for $2.7m (£2.1m) - breaking the record for the most expensive wine or spirit sold at auction.
The Macallan 1926 single malt is one of the world's most sought-after bottles of Scotch whisky.

My guess is that this particular fool still has an awful lot of money he hasn't yet been parted with.

I've never understood the point of "collecting" wine or other forms of alcohol, these things are intended for consumption, what possible is there not to do so? The parody of wine collecting in the movie "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" still has not been refuted as far as I'm aware.

Whiskey collecting is especially pretentious because unlike wines, it doesn't mature or improve with aging. An expert doing a blind test likely couldn't pick and old whiskey from a new.
It's a bit like vegetables who think pickling makes them invincible.....
