This one kinda bothered me. No idea why. Wasn't a huge fan or anything. Probably because he was such a known icon for being a notorious drunk and my love of Irish music (my great grandparents on my mother's side were Irish immigrants).

May he RIP. His wife posted something about being in the arms of Jesus and Mary, so here's hoping he was Catholic and received the sacraments. :pray:

He: I coulda been someone
She: Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
when I first found you
He: I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Can’t make it all alone
I built my dreams around you
What an amazing lyricist. I love this song. It's such a brilliant expression of a deeply loving but deeply dysfunctional relationship.

I agree. The Pogues and the Waterboys defined the crossover of pain/love/memory lyrics that sustained the Irish for centuries.

Greetings;

What a guy !!

I use to think that this video was the big stinger:
Requiem for a croppies:

But Shane's : "Thousands are sailing" hit me like a ton of bricks.

I actually knew a TAS.

That's a lovely song (mostly) but Shane didn't write it. The 3rd verse has some moderately anti-Catholic stuff in it, too.
