Kamala Harris rejects religious exemptions to Abortion

Kamala Harris told NBC News yesterday that she does not believe in any religious exemption for abortion, in a Kamala Harris administration, will Catholic hospitals be required to perform abortions, perhaps at the risk of losing Medicare patients? It sure sounds like that is her intent if she is serious about offering "no religious exemption"

"The Conservative Case for forcing People to perform abortions" is no doubt a future column by David Frum.

Keep in mind, the Obama and Biden administrations both spent a decade to force The Little Sisters For the Poor to pay for contraception, you don't think these same people will go to the mat to force doctors to perform abortions? How delightfully naive. Never underestimate the Democrat's enthusiasm for abortion.

Forget anything Trump has ever said, this comment by Harris is the single most vile thing any American politician has ever said.

She is an anti-Catholic bigot of the worst sort, undoubtedly.

She is only the second presidential candidate in 80 years to skip the Al Smith Dinner, a fundraiser for Catholic Charities. The last candidate to do so was Walter Mondale in 1984.

No doubt part of the reason she skipped it is her awareness that she cannot speak off the cuff, as the event requires. If she isn't reading from a script, she sounds like a complete moron, and sometimes even when she is. This is why she won't give interviews.

But I'm sure another part of the reason for skipping the event is precisely that it is a Catholic event, as her "you're at the wrong rally" comment to the teenagers in her audience who shouted "Jesus is Lord, Christ is King" makes clear that she doesn't much like Christianity,

I heard the comment, but I was not aware that they were teenagers.

I'm hoping she goes on Rogan. That would be a blood bath.

Are you sure you don't mean David French?

She can't even handle ostensibly friendly media like Anderson Cooper.

True. But I wonder whether Doom is right to say that she's aware of this. I actually doubt it. I suspect she sincerely believes she's a masterful speaker.

I don't think she really believes that. She's too quick to look for a cue or to cover up her lack of an answer with a cackle.

And yet it might be the least surprising thing to come out of her campaign.

Yeah, that could be. She just strikes me as one who thinks that these "word salad" answers she gives are actually clever and effective. But I've obviously got no line on her inner life. :-D :fyi:

No Rogan for Harris. Definitely the right decision for her, but a very sad one from my perspective. Fortunately, her campaign has pointed out that "the vice president is happy to go anywhere and any place to talk to a broad segment of the country," so obviously the fact that she was not happy to go to the Al Smith dinner or the Joe Rogan podcast doesn't imply that she's unwilling to go anywhere or talk to a broad segment of the country. :fyi:

I did not read anything in this article about policy for religious institutions or about medical professionals having no choice if they are going to perform abortions, I read it as saying her policy is every woman has the right to access abortion, but I could have missed something. I think we need not go beyond what was stated into what we think was implied or what we think that person is thinking...

As Donald Trump has been clear that he will veto a federal abortion ban, these two candidates are equal on their stand wrt abortion.

“Everyone knows I would not support a federal abortion ban, under any circumstances, and would, in fact, veto it, because it is up to the states to decide based on the will of their voters (the will of the people!)”

You can't actually believe that. I pray.

Cmon
JACKSON: So is a question of pragmatism then: what concessions would be on the table? Religious exemptions, for example, is that something that you would consider with a Republican controlled Congress? [xtalk]

HARRIS: I don’t think we should be making concessions when we’re talking about a fundamental freedom to make decisions about your own body.
So Harris says "no" to concessions, specifically the "concession" of religious exemptions.
