Re: Anti-Catholic Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart dies
I don't know how one of his denomination might be defrocked as it seems to me that one of such frocks him or herself.
HST, he seemed a tortured soul and a not very nice person. I would not have wanted to be him.

Re: Where Goes Leo?
Would it be reasonable to take the position that Leo seems to have a direction, but that the direction is unclear and that it is too early to see which direction it is?

Re: Where Goes Leo?
Go to Rome and you will be amazed at the large number of habited (and young) nuns you see. While less common in the US there are orders such as the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharit that are thriving. Good point. Rome did have a goodly number of nuns. When last there, our hotel back...

Re: Negotiating with Iran
On the lee side of the strikes, as the US is asking for a renewal of negotiations, Iran appears to have pulled out the old play list and is making various unreasonable demands before any talks might begin.

Re: Where Goes Leo?
I read the above with interest. I also read an article that proposed that Leo is focused (among other things, I imagine) on the renewal within the Church. Vocations, the Orders, youth. I perked up with the Orders being mentioned. I wonder if the women's orders have become a thing of the past -- anot...

Where Goes Leo?
There was a good deal of speculation, guessing, and invention about Leo's direction when he ascended. Particularly in comparison to Francis. Some here follow these things more than I do. So, I ask, are there any indications where Leo may be oriented and where he might lead the Church?

Re: Negotiating with Iran
Apparently, some Iranian big wig proclaimed that Iran was on the path to beginning successful negotiation, when the US struck. The spokesman said something like, "We only needed a few more days to enter into problem resolving negotiation." Heard that song before.

Holland - The Battle of Britain.
I swore I was done reading about WWII in Europe, though I found the Med still interesting and I am still pursuing Italy in the War. Holland is a great popular historian, and he has drawn me back into the topic.

Re: Negotiating with Iran
The US just introduced an novel negotiating tactic. We'll see how it plays out. However, the initial Iranian negotiating response seems to be more of the same. Apparently, according to various Iranian sources, Iran was negotiating with the EU and the US in complete good faith, earnestly seeking peac...

Re: Negotiating with Iran
Iran's pattern is to make outrageous demands and then negotiate to a position where they get pretty much everything they want. Like the non-inspecting UN inspectors. I read that Iran had made two demands before it would resume negotiations. First, the negotiations had to open with the original (befo...

Re: Brian Wilson Dead
They are well worth listening too. They also have a lot of voices, rather than the five that the BB had in their live performances. When I last saw them, in the concert referenced above, each had a "backup" singer who sang each BBs part along with them. Except for Mike. It worked. Except f...

Re: Brian Wilson Dead
Wow! They are more BBs than the BBs. Thanks. P.S. Listened to several songs. They are good. They do lack that really subtle "whine", as I hear it, that is part of the SoCal accent. And it was clear that on "God Only Knows" that Carl wasn't singing. One tidbit. Wife and I went to ...

Negotiating with Iran
My opinion is that you can't. Negotiate with Iran. Over the last 15-20 years Iran has successfully adopted a technique of faux negotiation. Which it to pretend to negotiate to avoid sanctions or accountability or fighting. For itself and for its proxies. Then Iran has several years to advance its nu...

Re: Mostly Peaceful
To the observation that the Left employs lawfare as a tactic to slow, disrupt, and impose an undemocratic result upon the body politic -- why is there any surprise? I again point to the Leninist/Stalinist model. The march through the courts. Soros funded groups. And the CCP.
