Re: Pope Leo Presses Trump to Not Use Military Against Venezuela’s Maduro

I agree with the Pope's assessment. Love the President or not, his public position on many things is a constantly moving target.

Re: Advice for Godparents with Difficult Godchildren

In my experience, when relationships become touchy, quietly setting an example is the better and sometimes only option.

Re: Mater Populi Fidelis - Doctrinal Note on Some Marian Titles

A thought. When being introduced to Catholicism, I as told this story: A petitioner approachs a Church office with a demand for attention and action, arguing an immediate and urgent need for change. His petition is received, and over the next weeks he pesters the office, providing example after exam...

Re: Pope Leo XIV hopes to visit Jerusalem in 2033, to mark the 2000th anniversary of Christ’s passion, death, and resurr

I did observe, when I was in Russia some years ago, that the observance of religion by the people was open and apparently devout. I did visit a Catholic church in St Petersburg. Although a bit worn around the edges, perhaps due to age, it was apparently as active and observant as any parish I've see...

That's a new one for me. I use images in the public domain and have yet to have an issue.

You beat me to it. Well, with a lot more research and detail and quite convincingly. As I recall, from my era of reading about the rise and fall of Communist Russia, the Russian Church has been coopted by the state back into Czarist times. It was during the atheist Soviet era that the church subsume...

Re: Quebec to ban public prayer in sweeping new secularism law

From the OP, it appears clearly to be a ban on prayer as well as a universal ban on the display of religion. Religion as defined by the State. Stalin would have been proud. A similar ban on various secular belief systems does not seem to have been addressed. So one is banned from anti-abortion opini...

Two thoughts. First, announcing his intent early will give the various terrorists and crazies and anti-Christians plenty of time to plan their mayhem. Second, upon reading about the gaggle that attended the cited meeting, does it not seem that when the Pope is featured in the general media, that var...

Re: "Prince of Darkness" - JF Powers... short story

At the Mass, it seems -- no, I have observed -- everybody receives. I mean everybody. I am aware of universal reception since, for various reasons, sometimes I don't. I get glances that range from puzzled to judgemental. I wonder why I am the only person who believes that he is not in a state approp...

Miscegenation.

And my last three helicopter rides involved takeoffs, but no landings. As our class, roughly 1200 feet high, leapt into the void, trusting the parachutes would function. Perfectly.

My poor understanding of Christianity informs me about I should interact with those with various disabilities. I imagine that the many Christian injunctions on how to treat everyone such existed from the beginning. HST, I think that even kindness should be moderated. I recall a girl with Downs Syndr...

Re: But Why Associate Clowns with Mass?

The "logic" of colored masses leaves me .... uninterested. Where, then, is the Green Mass for the Irish? Following the trend a multi-colored Mass is surely on the way. No, not to celebrate Joseph's coat, but .... can you hear the train coming?,,, to celebrate a rainbow of ... well, you kno...

Mamdani is a Western socialist Moslem. He has no issue with destructive p...

The fact that two commentators can read the same document and come to opposite conclusions ... ... is not in the least surprising. A commentator brings his perceptions, personality, prejudices, and pressures ( four "p" ' s, eh) to whatever document he reads. The document is a lens through...
