The German "Synodal Way" is Falling Apart

Post by Doom »

The latest news from Germany is that the "Synodal Way" is collapsing, the German bishops are backing down from the extreme positions they have taken, and they have actually said that they are backing down due to "pressure from Rome", are the people who claim Francis is a heretic trying to destroy the Church going to give credit for this or are they going to make excuses to explain it all away?

What extreme positions are the German bishops backing down from?

Anyway, it's possible that the Synodal Way is collapsing while also doing incalculable damage to the Church in Germany and throughout the world.

There was a vote scheduled for TODAY on whether to adopt all the proposals that have been discussed since 2019. Due to a series of letters from Pope Francis in which he first bent over backward to try to reason with them, in his last letter, he dropped the hammer saying that "Germany already has one Protestant Church, it does not need two", and then he said that if they adopt these proposals "all dialogue has ended and it will be time to take the next step", which was interpreted as a threat of excommunication. As a result of this, several bishops left the synod, denying it a quorum for business, and the vote which was supposed to be held today has been delayed indefinitely and will probably never be held.

He said this in 2022, I can't find where he put this in his latest letter. Do you have a link?

The Pillar reports that the vote today was supposed to be on setting up a Synodal Council with a view to its permanency however that isn't allowed for by Canon Law.

“Such an organ is not provided for by the applicable canon law and therefore a decision by the DBK in this respect would be invalid – with the corresponding legal consequences,” wrote Cardinals Fernandez, Prevost and Parolin on Saturday.
