FIXED! It was something to do with the fuse box itself, in that particular "hole". It was a quick fix and now the dryer works! The big question, do we bring back in the old dryer (it is on the back patio right now) and see if it works too, return the new dryer (assuming Lowe's has a decent policy) and use that $$ toward a new fridge, or, just keep the new dryer.......

It's worth at least trying the old dryer, if you're doing a lot of laundry (which I guess you're not if it's just you and DS) then having 2 dryers is good.

Seems Lowe's only has a 48 hour return window for major appliances, and that is only if they do not function. Guess we are

NAYY and YMMV but I like Best Buy for appliances. Not sure what the return policy is but I the Geek Squad. I think because they are "in house" for repairs they don't just send a repair person without trying other simple fixes first (it's how I learned about resetting the breaker for a dryer that runs but doesn't heat, for example).

Will shop there when we begin. DS and I have decided we can live with the "beer/dorm" fridge until 1st of the year. He gets a bonus then that should cover the cost.

So, a month or so ago, our electric dryer stopped working. It would come on, but, heat would never go on. DS ordered a new heating element and installed it, the problem persisted. Assuming it was the dryer, I bought a new dryer which was to be delivered on Saturday.

Came home from work on Thursday, the fridge stopped working.

What sort of luck is that???

So, on Friday we bought a little dorm fridge until we can go shopping - physically I need to be able to reach things in a new fridge. We have a deep freeze already.

Saturday, Lowe's delivers the new dryer, installs it. Turn it on and it runs. Guys leave. The heat never comes on in the dryer.

Now, we are thinking maybe this is an electrical problem? Other things in laundry room, washer, lights, deep freeze, work fine. Same goes for the kitchen, other things on that wall work fine.

Central AC works fine. DS has replaced the fuses, no avail.

It will be NEXT week until DS has a day off to meet an electrician at the house.

It is possible you are dropping one leg of your 240 volt power. The 120 leg can run the motor and electronics, but the other leg is used for the heater element. A $9 multimeter can tell you is you have 240 volt. Just put the probe tips into each of the slits (not slit to ground - that will only tell you if you are getting 120 volt and if both are wired to the same 120 volt, you won't know if you're getting 240). If you only read 120 then you know you have a wiring problem of 1/2 of the 50a 240v breaker/fuse is bad.
